Hunting Art Prize

The Hunting Art Prize is a prestigious annual competition open to Texas artists who are 18 years of age or older. Its $50,000 award is historically the most generous annual award in North America for painting and drawing, and has helped to build the reputations, raise the profiles, and support the careers of distinguished artists.

Artists can register to participate by using the electronic sign up form and submitting a single two-dimensional painting or drawing. The finalists and winner are determined through a two-tiered jury process. The work of all finalists will be exhibited and available for purchase at the Hunting Art Prize gala on May 4, 2013, in Houston.

  • Only two-dimensional paintings or drawings will be considered (no collage, photography, printmaking, found object, or computer-generated works are allowed in the competition).
  • Artists may only submit a single piece of work. Diptychs and triptychs are allowed, but the pieces must be attached as a single unit.
  • Submissions cannot exceed 72 inches on any side (including frame, if any).
  • The work must have been completed within three years prior to November 30, 2012.
  • Deadline for entry is midnight on Friday, November 30, 2012.
