Under the title ‘Art at the End of the First Machine Age’, the Métamatic Research Initiative and VU University Amsterdam have initiated a visiting professorship programme. We seek research proposals that unpack the shifting relationship between art and technology in the first three decades after World War II in general, and critically reassess the role and position of the artist, the artwork and the beholder within the historical development of that very relationship in particular.
